Book & a Cuppa

A couple weeks ago I mentioned that I had signed up to take part in the Book & a Cuppa swap over at Chaotic Goddess Swaps. I was pretty surprised when I got the email with my partner, I had actually been paired with another blogger from Nova Scotia. I didn't think I was the only blogger in NS by any means, but I figure there probably aren't too many of us. So to be matched up with one was pretty neat. My partner was Sarah and I definitely think you should check out her blog, especially if you're a book lover.

I was completely spoiled with my box!

My mug was this awesome Kate Spade travel mug which will be perfect for filling with hot chocolate to take to work for the rest of the winter. (It probably is going to get used tonight simply because it's so cute even though I have no plans to travel anywhere since we're in the midst of another snow storm.) Sarah also sent a couple boxes of delicious looking hot chocolate that I can't wait to get into.

I received book one and book two of Rick Yancey's The 5th Wave series. I am so excited to dive into these it's not even funny!

And then, on top of two hardcover books, the adorable travel mug and the hot chocolate, Sarah also included this book for my future kids. I couldn't have asked for a better partner for this swap.

Thank you Sarah!

Book & a Cuppa Swap

I am a reader. Ever since I was little, I've loved reading. I love curling up with a good book and spending hours losing myself in it. There's really nothing better. And it doesn't matter to me if it's a paper book or my Kobo, I just love a good story. That's why I'm so excited about the swap that I just signed up for!

I love swaps in general, but with this one you're exchanging a mug and a book with another blogger. I'm excited about shopping for my partner, and I'm excited to see what I receive.

Signing up actually got me to start thinking about books I might want to read and I realized I'm sort of out of the loop. I spent probably a good hour between Goodreads and Amazon looking up books that looked interesting and adding them to my to-read list.

If you think this sounds like fun, you need to act fast. Tomorrow is the last day to sign up!

Oh, and if you have any must-read books to recommend I'm all ears. :-)

 xo,
 Sara

Green Goodies!

I was pretty excited to get home today and discover a package had come for me! Who doesn't love getting mail?! Back at the end of April I posted about the "Go Green" for Mental Health Swap I had signed up for and today is the day I get to share what I received!

I ended up swapping with Ashley who organized the swap. She sent me an adorable wallet, a pair of super cute green socks, and "High Line Green" nail polish by New York Color. The nail polish is super close to the colour my bridesmaids wore so of course I love it!

Going Green

I bet you thought this post was going to be about saving the environment, didn't you? Surprise - it's not. I'm actually going green for mental health awareness and participating in Ashley's "Go Green" accessories swap. This is my first swap since I've been blogging here and I'm pretty excited about it. I love green, I love accessories, and I think mental health is one of those topics that too many people consider to be taboo.

Ashley has posted some facts and statistics on her blog, but I thought I'd track down some Canadian numbers for any of my fellow Canadians who may be reading. (All information is from the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia website.)

- Mental illness indirectly affects all Canadians at some time through a family member, friend or colleague.
- Almost one half (49%) of those who feel they have suffered from depression or anxiety have never gone to see a doctor about this problem.
- Mental illness affects people of all ages, educational and income levels, and cultures.
- Approximately 8% of adults will experience major depression at some time in their lives.
- Anxiety disorders affect 5% of the household population, causing mild to severe impairment.
- Suicide is one of the leading causes of death from adolescence to middle age in both men and women.
- 20% of Canadians will personally experience a mental illness in their lifetime.

Big thanks to Ashley for setting up the swap, and for being my swap partner.

Sara
