#TBTStories; The Day I Almost Got Engaged

It's time for Throw Back Thursday Stories with Jessica @ The Mom Creative again. My fifth wedding anniversary is fast approaching so for the next couple of months I'll probably be sharing wedding-related pictures and stories.

It was October 2007 - Thanksgiving weekend - and J and I were out having an adventure before turkey dinner with my family. It was a bit chilly, but the sun was shining, so we decided it would be a good day to visit Peggy's Cove. We had a great afternoon together, climbing the rocks and posing for pictures. We had recently gone shopping and looked at engagement rings, I had pointed out several that I liked. We knew we were going to get engaged, it was just a matter of him asking.

During our afternoon at Peggy's Cove we had a number of discussions about our future and about how we pictured out wedding. There were several times I thought for sure J was about to pop the question.

But he didn't. In the end I waited 3 more months before he asked me to marry him. I still tease him about that day in October and how I was so disappointed that he didn't propose that day.

Were you expecting it when your significant other popped the question, or was it a total surprise?

Wednesday Wishes

Wednesday is my day off, and I feel like the day just flies by. It's almost 6 o'clock and I have no idea where the day went.  My day off is pretty much over - time to make supper and relax with J for a bit before we head to bed. I was semi-productive today, I cleaned out the fridge and re-organized a couple of my kitchen cupboards. Most of the rest of the day was spent relaxing. I finished a cute book, so I'll probably try to get that review done shortly.

Today I'm linking up with Anne at Love the Here and Now for Wednesday Wishes for the first time. My wishes aren't anything deep, not this week anyway.

Love the Here and Now

  • I wish the weather would warm up. I want to take Daisy to the park without freezing.
  • I wish I could find a couple cute sundresses or summer skirts. I tried a couple things on today but had no luck.
  • I wish J wasn't so busy at work. The overtime pay is really nice but I miss seeing him in the evening.
  • I wish it was vacation time. We start our vacation on June 14th and I cannot wait!

What are you wishing for this week?

Book Review; The Bachelor Prince

Every so often I get the urge to read something light, fun, and romantic - and this book was all three!

The Bachelor Prince by Debbie Macomber (June 1994)

Goodreads says...

Prince Stefano is a man most girls could only dream of meeting. And now the very handsome—and very eligible—bachelor is in America searching for the girl he will someday make his bride.

Hope Jordan's prince has finally come—but there's no happy ending in sight. Her royal suitor needs a wealthy wife to save his country from ruin, but Hope has nothing to offer Stefano. Except her love…

My thoughts...

I borrowed this book from the library because I wanted a light-hearted read, and because I love anything that has to do with royalty. It was really cute. At only 120 pages it was a quick, easy read. It kept my attention from beginning to end, though it was a little predictable. If you're looking for a fun, quick, light-hearted read I would definitely recommend The Bachelor Prince.

Happy reading!

He asked, she said Yes!

Last Wednesday was the 10th anniversary of my younger brother's leukemia diagnosis and I wrote about how grateful I was for his health. (You can read it here.)

My brother & I in 1987
This week I'm pretty freaking excited to announce that I am grateful for my new sister-in-law to be!

We've always "celebrated" Jon's cancer-versary. We give him little presents, and he usually gets pretty drunk with his friends. This year he told his girlfriend, Nickie, he wanted to celebrate the night by getting a hotel room and having a really nice dinner out. Well, they did that, but before they left the room for dinner he got down on one knee, told her he wanted to stop celebrating the worst day of his life and start celebrating the best. He pulled out a (beautiful!) ring and asked her to marry him.

She said yes.

The idea of my little brother getting married makes me feel old, but the fact that he is still around and healthy and thinking about the future... I can't even put in to words how grateful I am for that.

Silent Sunday

"Silent Sunday" is something that Jenn at Ramblings of a Suburban Mom does that I love. Going forward on Sundays I'll just be posting a recent picture of something that I love or that makes me happy. I figure I couldn't be totally silent today, just in case it didn't make sense. :-)

Daisy & J last Saturday.
